Do you have family members who are serving in the military during this holiday season? Is it hard on your family to have them away for the holidays?
My brother Kelly served two campaigns in Iraq, and celebrated Christmas away from home during each campaign. Our family deeply missed him while he was away, especially during the holidays when our family of 10 children and extended family of more than 50 people, traditionally gathered to eat, play games, tell stories, and help each other out.
Kelly was able to return on leave during each holiday season to either spend a late Thanksgiving or early Christmas with us, and we cherished those moments with him. Kelly is no longer serving in Iraq, and is home with his wife and two children this holiday season. And while we have Kelly this year, we know many families will not have loved ones near because their relatives are now serving in the military.
American Family Insurance, one of our partners here at FamilyLink.com, sponsored a survey of our users to find out how many families’ holiday celebrations are affected by having a relative serve in the military. American Family Insurance is sponsoring a special salute to military personnel and their families who are not together this holiday season.
The results appear in American Family Insurance’s report located here.
